A key political film of Chilean cinema (together with Guzmán's Battle of Chile which Chaskel edited and co-wrote), Venceremos appeared during and contributed to the rise of Popular Unity which brought Allende to the pr...展开esidency in Chile. It was produced at the Experimental Cinema Center at the University of Chile which Chaskel, today the director of the Chilean cinemateque, co-founded with Sergio Bravo. The Center played a major role in revitalizing Chilean filmmaking, providing equipment and technical support for such films as Raúl Ruiz's recently recovered and assembled first film, La Maleta (1962) as well as Ruiz's first feature, Tres tristes tigres (1968); Miguel Littin's El Chacal de Nahueltoro (1969, edited by Chaskel); and countless other short and feature length films.
Venceremos, invoking the popular chant, slogan and hymn of Popular Unity, uses popular songs and draws upon multiple photographic and film elements.
