In a small Bulgarian Muslim village in the Rhodope Mountains a new teacher arrives – Marina, a woman trying to live and think independently. She finds herself in a world unfamiliar to her, pure and innocent, but at the...展开 same time displaying the deviations from the natural way of life, typical of the whole country. After she meets the Doctor, Mr. Know-All, Mariana, the mayor, Yosko The Internationalist, she finds that each of them resists the authorities in one’s own way. And when the non-Bulgarian names start being changed coercively, the heroine realizes she is in jail – a jail with high mountains, forests, rivers, yet a jail of tragic beauty it is.
