1961年东非小国乌干达开始逐渐脱离英国的殖民主义控制而独立，本片记录下那段时期乌干达国内的社会现状和政治变革。拍摄此片的是哥伦比亚大学的一位社会学教授，在前往乌干达作西方殖民研究时拍摄的资料，原本只想自己保留，但回国后还是决定剪辑成一部影片。
