The first season of the music talent elimination show, broadcast on Network Ten in 2005, saw contestants split into three categories: groups, solo 16 to 25, and solo 25 and over. The winner of the 2005 series was Random. The show drew comparisons to Ten's Australian Idol, but after poor ratings was cancelled.
The show returned in 2010 on the Seven Network with Kyle Sandilands, Ronan Keating, Guy Sebastian and Natalie Imbruglia as judges.[1] Matthew Newton was originally announced as the program's host,[2] but quit the show during filming due to personal reasons.[3] He was replaced by Home and Away actor Luke Jacobz.[4] Auditions began in May 2010 with the series premiering at 7:30pm on Monday, August 30, 2010.[5][6]
